Ifeanyi A. Ufondu, Ph.D.*  

Educational Psychologist -Behaviorist, & Special Needs Consultant 


In 2004, following a successful career in higher education and administration, along with his wife, Mr. Ufondu founded Beautiful Minds Educational & Special Needs Services, Inc. (BMI) in response to an increasing number of requests from families, attorneys, and school administrators for consultation, I.E.P. /A.R.D. review, diversity training, and presentations.

 

  • Ifeanyi A. Ufondu is an Educational Psychologist, Certified Behaviorist, Special Education consultant and co-founder of Beautiful Minds Educational & Special Needs Services, Inc. As a doctoral candidate in Education Psychology with an emphasis in Social and Multi-Cultural Foundations at the University of California, Los Angeles, he is completing his dissertation entitled, "The Affect of Mitigating Race Concerning the Academic Success of African-American Males: A Cross-Cultural Ethnography; Los Angeles, London, and Paris." He has also earned a Master's degree in Educational Psychology from California State University, Long Beach and a Master's degree and undergraduate work in Education with an emphasis in African-American Literature from Howard University. Mr. Ufondu is court-qualified in the State of California as an expert in transition planning, vocational assessments, I.Q. assessments relevant to African-American males in education and special education, Alternative learning settings, Gang affiliated/Judicially involved clientele, and school evaluation as well as other related areas.
    As the principal of BMI, Mr. Ufondu is called upon by school administrators, city officials, attorneys and families from around the country. He provides consultation to school administrators on issues such as Special Education, Behavior Management and Over-representation of minorities in special education, and to attorneys in cases involving schools and the education of children with learning disabilities. Mr. Ufondu, former Administrative Director/Vocation-Educational Specialist with American Testing & Evaluation Corp., has been a presenter for more than forty events, at national and international venues including Paris, the United Kingdom and Spain, and has been a guest on numerous radio programs. He has authored more than thirty academic papers (Ifeanyi A.Ufondu's scholarly work samples 1, 2, 3, 4) on Critical Thinking in the Classroom, Minority Education, globalization, and most recently, "5 Essential Skills to Academic Success."  Mr. Ufondu has served as a member of the faculty at the Universite de Paris, Saint Denis, and Nottingham-Trent University, United Kingdom as a Fulbright Scholar.

Mr. Ufondu will review students academic and psycho-educational records, observe current and potential school placement, evaluate program quality, and perform independent educational/vocational assessments and transition plans. Beautiful Minds Educational & Special Needs Services, Inc. will make recommendations and help individuals make informed decisions regarding their child(ren).

Nicole J. Ufondu
Owner-Life Coach/Mentor


With the growing need to counter teen pregnancy, absentee parenting, substance abuse, and school dropouts, Nicole J. Ufondu decided to take a stance. As co-owner of Beautiful Minds Education & Special Needs Services, Inc., Mrs. Ufondu founded GurlPower©, a mentoring program committed to helping young girls sustain the clarity, voice, and self-confidence they risk losing during the difficult transition to adolescence. GurlPower© is designed to help each girl regain and sustain her "true self" by developing and expressing her strengths. From preventing teen pregnancy to promoting positive body image, Mrs. Ufondu utilizes her own life experiences to make a difference in the lives of young girls everywhere. Throughout the years, Mrs. Ufondu has developed a powerful regime to help countless young women grow their full potential and prepare them for womanhood.
At GurlPower©, we provide opportunities for girls to express their thoughts and feelings, to work and play with a community of other girls and professional women.

Delaina A. Martinez, Psy.D.
Licensed Educational Psychologist, Lic. # 2771


Dr. Martinez is a psychologist and Licensed Educational Psychologist with Beautiful Minds, Inc. An east coast native, Dr. Martinez has been practicing psychology in the Los Angeles area for the last three years. As a clinical intern at Augustus Hawkins Community Mental Health Center in the late 90's, she vowed to return to L.A. While interning at Hawkins, she served the Watts community completing psychological evaluations, as well as providing individual and group counseling to children and adults with numerous concerns.

For the last 8 years she has worked in the school system in Virginia and Maryland evaluating students, consulting to parents and schools, and developing educational for students. She has always sought out new and innovative ideas to work with children, volunteering for crisis intervention training, attending conferences, and providing training in cultural diversity to school districts. She was instrumental in the development of the crisis intervention handbook for Fairfax County Public Schools, in Virginia. Her skills were put to the test during the 9/11 attacks in Washington, D.C., when her school was 6 miles from the Pentagon. While working in Manhattan Beach Unified School District, she has focused her efforts on increasing social skills in students with mental retardation, autism, and Down's syndrome. Her non-profit Lunch Bunch Club recently traveled to Anaheim to see the Angels beat the White Sox. Through donations, she took typically-developing students together with students who had cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and autism to the park, some of whom had never participated in a school activity before. Her diverse experiences and training have made her an expert in working with students who have serious emotional, behavioral, and educational difficulties. Her knowledge, experience, and training in the schools, with parents and children, and personally make her an outstanding advocate for children's needs, regardless of the child's economic level or geographic location. She has worked and lived in communities that are often slow to respond to the needs of the education system, and the nations most precious commodity: the children. Ursula Denley
M.S., CCC/SLP
Speech & Language Pathologist


Ursula Denley graduated from Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee, with her Masters Degree in Speech and Hearing Science. While in graduate school, she gained over four years of clinical treatment and assessment experience in her training. Prior to graduation, Ms. Denley completed internships in a wide variety of clinical settings. Her clinical treatment experience included working as a speech therapist with both children and adults. She was assigned to various settings, which included Nashville Rehabilitation Hospital, Harris Hillman Special Education School, Robert Woodall Primary School and the Tennessee State University's Speech and Hearing Clinic.

She has had the opportunity to work with children who present with a wide variety of speech and language disorders, which include Autism, Apraxia of Speech, Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Fluency, Articulation/Phonological Disorders, as well as Expressive and Receptive Language Disorders. While working with the adult population, she evaluated and treated persons who have aphasia, dysphasia, Alzheimers dementia, and dysarthria. Patients included those who suffered from stroke and traumatic brain injury, as well as Alzheimers dementia.

Ms. Denley has over 6 years of clinical experience with both children (birth to 18 years of age) and adults. She has evaluated and treated diverse age groups with a variety of speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders. Her clinical emphasis has been in early intervention with children who have language delays, speech delays, social skill impairments, and voice disorders in both individual and group treatment sessions.

Ms. Denley has a wonderful ability to build relationships with both children and adults and their families. She has excellent flexibility which allows her to be adaptable across a wide range of age levels, personalities, and disabilities. She is versatile, creative, and has been well trained in working with multidisciplinary teams as well as the family unit. These skills, experience, knowledge, and personality enable her to be effective at individualizing therapy to suit the specialized needs of each child or with which she works.

 

 

Donald R. Ford Jr., B.S.
Math Specialist


Mr. Ford encourages the advancement of learning for youth. A proud graduate of Grambling State University, he received a B.S. degree in Computer Information Systems and Business Marketing. But now Mr. Ford has stepped out of the business world, into the world of Education. A native of Fontana, CA, Donald has been teaching upper level high-school mathematics and varsity and AAU basketball for the past three years at Ramona High School in Riverside, CA and throughout the DFW Metroplex.

Mr. Ford has also guided youth motivated programs in California such as:

Also, a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Mr. Ford has always believed that striving for achievement in every field of the human endeavor should be one of great importance for every individual, and should guide every child who agrees to do so.

Joy Tolentino, B.S.
Operations Manager


As the office manager, Socorro "Joy" Tolentino, has had training and experience in a numerous arenas. Her initial training was in Business Administration when she earned her B.S. at the University of the East Philippines. She began working in the state government as an auditor, where she continued to develop her business skills. Coming to the United States in October of 2002, she continued working in the business field with Ban-V Incorporated. Her work as an office assistant allowed her to hone and improve her organizational and computer skills in Microsoft Power Point, Word, Excel, and QuickBooks. She also spent several years as a personal assistant to different individuals through private agencies until coming to Beautiful Minds Educational & Special Needs Services, Inc. While with BMI she was the central organizer for all Speech & Language assessment cases, as well as a liaison to attorney's firms, outside contractors, and overall office management. She is bilingual in English and Tagalog, and continues to work hard at all of her accomplishments. As well as her full-time jobs, she has attended school to obtain her certificate as a nursing assistant. Joy has the technical know-how, organization, and a caring and helpful personality that makes her an indispensable team member.
